This guided walk follows the bank of the River Ehen north to Longlands Lake Country Park then continues west on road and cross country footpath to Bigrigg before circling around to return to Egremont at Orgill. Although, starting in Egremont this route takes in a large proportion of Bigrigg and its surroundings.

This walk is a one way stroll to the 'back road' , ie. Woodend to Moor row starting in Bigrigg next to the Old Captains House pub. As the name implies it traces the route used by the local iron ore mines to transport ore to Whitehaven by pack horse prior to the introduction of the railways.
It forms part of walk 1, but is much shorter, with more detailed information of the area..
